History

1981
Bunzl plc makes initial acquisition of Jersey Paper, a distributor of disposable and coarse paper products, based in South Brunswick, New Jersey. Company establishes U.S. headquarters in Short Hills, New Jersey.

1981-1983
Additional acquisitions are made of companies located in Florida, New York, Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky.

1983
Bunzl finalizes the purchase of St. Louis-based PCI/Mac Pak Group, paving the way for Bunzl to become the largest nationwide distributor of disposable paper and plastic packaging supplies to the supermarket industry.

1983-1987
Bunzl continues to acquire companies, firmly establishing its presence east of the Rocky Mountains.

1987
The company achieves coast-to-coast status with the purchase of Papercraft, Inc., a major regional redistributor based in Santa Fe Springs, Calif., with branch operations throughout the state, as well as in Portland, Seattle, Salt Lake City and Phoenix.

1987-1989
Several additional acquisitions enhance Bunzl’s presence in the West.

1990-1995
Acquisitions include several significant U.S. regional competitors, as well as expansion into Canada and Mexico. Bunzl relocates its U.S. headquarters to St. Louis, Missouri.

1994
The acquisition of Marstan Industries of Philadelphia proves instrumental in establishing Bunzl’s presence in the foodservice industry. It paves the way for Bunzl to become an industry leader in the popular Home Meal Replacement (HMR) movement.

1997-1998
Bunzl further penetrates into supermarket and redistribution industries. The company acquires the food packaging divisions of xpedx and Unisource.

1998
The company becomes the largest distributor of disposable paper and plastic packaging supplies to the supermarket industry with the purchase of Grocery Supply Systems division (GSS) and other related U.S. grocery supply businesses of Unisource Worldwide, Inc. Bunzl also begins trading in its American Depositary Receipts (ADRs) on the New York Stock Exchange under a sponsored program based on existing shares. Bunzl acquires the grocery supply business of International Paper's xpedx division.

2000
Bunzl advances its position in the food processor and packer industry with the acquisition of Koch Supplies, one of the nation’s leading suppliers to the meat and food processing industry.

2001
Bunzl acquires Packers Engineering & Equipment, a supplier to the beef and pork processor industries. The acquisition of Godin, a distributor based in Quebec, Canada, extends the company’s geographic coverage of Canada. The purchase of Melissa Sales Corp., a redistributor based in Puerto Rico, enables Bunzl to service expanding business opportunities throughout the Caribbean. Bunzl also acquires Eastern Paper, a leading distributor to supermarkets, food processors and other distributors in the Atlantic Canadian market.

2002
Bunzl acquires Kenco Sales, Inc., a regional redistribution company for the Pacific Northwest and Hawaii; and Saxton, Inc., a regional redistribution company serving the West and the Lower Midwest.

2003
Enterprise, Inc., a food processing supplies business, is acquired by Bunzl.

2004
TSN Distribution, a convenience store chain and wholesaler supplier, is acquired, expanding Bunzl’s other convenience store business with TSN product lines.

2005
Bunzl acquires six additional companies, including SOFCO and A.W. Mendenhall.

2006
Bunzl acquires five additional companies; Master Craft Packing Corporation, Morgan Scott, and Cole Hartford Company further expanding our focus in food service redistribution channel. Venture Packaging and Distribution was an addition to our Processor channel, and the acquisition of United American Sales, Inc. created new expansion into the Safety Supply redistribution channel.

2007
Bunzl furthers their expansion in the Janitorial/Sanitation redistribution market with the acquisition of Tec Products, Co., Inc and the Safety redistribution segment with Westgate Sales Corporation.
